NotesWilliam Cowper uses a fairly shocking image blending the passion and the power of Jesus death with a personal reflection that should remind us to marvel and wonder at God's goodness in sending his dear Son whom he loved to give his precious love to bring us to him close to him. So I think a joyous yet not exactly light tune is called-for to bring out the full feel and meaning of the words. That's what I've tried to do here. |
